Sony Mobile has planned to launch a new smartphone factory in Thailand which is to be the first plant that will only dedicated to mobile business in 20 years. Factory will consists of a start-to-finish production system that will make a smartphone through o assembly. Production of the Xperia devices on this plant will be started on January 2016 which will produce about several million units of Xperia smartphones per year.
According to a report of Nikkei the initial investment is about several billion yens. Preduction site is a existing site in Pathum Thani Province that was suspended since the 2011 floods in the region.
As Sony is launching a new production plant we can assume that Sony has no plans to give up on mobiles just yet.
